Millions of people will receive their essential financial support before the August Bank Holiday weekend. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that benefit payments will be brought forward to Friday, August 22.

The early payment arrangement will apply to all major benefits, including the State Pension, Universal Credit, Child Benefit, Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, and Disability Living Allowance, ensuring that payments originally scheduled for the weekend of August 23 to August 25 reach claimants on time. Minister for Social Security and Disability Sir Stephen Timms said: “We know how much families rely on these payments, and by bringing them forward ahead of the Bank Holiday, we’re ensuring no one has to worry about whether their support will be there when they need it most.

“This is especially important ahead of the new school year – no family should have to choose between buying school supplies and putting food on the table.

“This is what our Plan for Change is all about – putting working families and the most vulnerable first and ensuring every family has the security they need to plan for the future.”

The early payment policy ensures recipients receive their funds before banks and Government offices close for the holiday weekend.

How will I know if this applies to me?

Some benefits are paid every two weeks, while others can be paid every four weeks.

Whether you’ll be impacted by the upcoming Bank Holiday payment changes will depend on the days you typically receive your benefit. If you’re due to receive your benefit payment on Saturday, 23, Sunday, 24, and Monday, August 25, 2025, you will be paid early on Friday, August 22, 2025.

People have been urged to plan their budgets “effectively” to account for the early payment date.

A spokesperson for Spencer Churchill said: “It’s vital that pensioners and benefit claimants are aware of any changes to their payment dates, especially around bank holidays.

“Receiving your payment earlier might seem like a good thing, but it also means that you’ll have to stretch that money further until the next instalment.”
