Britain puts up with nonsense year after year – Westminster must stop gaslighting us.uk

Living in a better-run state than Britain really opens your eyes as to just how badly successive governments have failed.

The UK population is set to grow by five million people over the next decade, and that is with death rates projected to overtake births. You guessed it. Migration will bring in nearly half a million people on average every year in that time-period, albeit these estimates pre-date Labour’s Reform-lite announcements on immigration.

Quick question: why does the UK – or any other Western nation for that matter – need immigration on this scale? Stock answer: to meet needs of the labour market. Rebuttal: why not be like Singapore and instead offer time-limited work permits? Duh!

Now I can already hear the chorus of condemnation: Singapore is much smaller than the UK so this would never work.

But why? Why couldn’t the UK have a work permit policy, just on a slightly bigger scale, alongside upskilling Brits to do jobs many otherwise will not or cannot do?

Come to think of it, why does the UK tolerate crime on a scale Singapore wouldn’t dream of? Perhaps it’s the ECHR. Perhaps because Singapore actually punishes crooks.

Who knows? But is there any legitimate reason why the UK couldn’t be the same, making London the type of city where you could leave your phone alone for 5 seconds without fear of it being nicked?

How about pro-business taxes and deregulations? Critics would reply that Singapore needs to fund a much smaller number of hospitals, schools and cops. But it’s all proportionate.

Sure, Singapore has a smaller spending bill due to its smaller population. But thanks to its smaller population it also has a smaller tax take. So it all evens out, right?

While I concede the UK could not copy and paste every aspect of Singapore’s model, I genuinely cannot see why it could not apply similar immigration, criminal justice, and tax models.

Singapore attracts the highest skilled immigrant and expat workers. Frankly you would have to be on the bones of your arse to want to move to Sir Keir Starmer‘s Britain.

The UK does not need to have an open border to meet its labour needs. Meanwhile, if a tiny country like Singapore which shares maritime borders with developing countries like Malaysia and Indonesia doesn’t have an unending stream of small boats then why does the UK?

Why does Britain allow criminals to run riot? Why are taxes confiscatory? Why is the Tube crap? Seriously, why are you putting up with this nonsense, year after year after year?

Singapore – a former British colony – has shot past the UK. The Brits should not be too proud to learn from its former protectorate. Singapore has got borders, criminal justice and taxes right. The UK is broken at the seams.

It’s about time Westminster stopped short-changing and gaslighting the British people, telling them the possible is impossible, and instead offered them what Singapore gives its people.

Reform UK has a ready-made model in the Southeast Asian city state. Someone needs to turn Britain around. It sure as heck won’t be the Labour and Tory parties.
