A Labour MP has delivered a blow to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer while appearing on GB News. Jo White hit out at the party leader while being interviewed by Camilla Tominey on the news channel, where the politician admitted that “there’s no hope”.

The presenter asked Ms White: “What do you think of Starmer? Do you think he is the right person to lead the Labour party?” The TV show guest replied brutally and honestly. She said that she would ask the Prime Minister to “talk to the people”. “I want the connection between Westminster and constituents of the North to be rebuilt,” she continued.

“It has completely broken. So, policy making and the way we talk about our delivery… people don’t listen anymore. I think the moment that we got into government back in July, I think that people voted for us with a sense of hope. They voted for Brexit

, hoping for change; they voted for Boris Johnson in 2019, hoping for change with the Brexit deal, and that didn’t happen.

“And then they voted for us in 2024, hoping that we would bring change. But the moment that the Winter Fuel Payment announcement was made, that hope was broken. And now, they’re not listening to the work that we are doing and they don’t believe us anymore.”

Ms White reiterated that she wants Keir Starmer to come out into the public and speak with voters as she pleaded with him to “listen to them” so that the “relationship can be rebuilt”.

She added: “I believe that on a one-to-one basis, Keir engages and listens, he is empathetic. That’s what we need. We want that relationship with the people in my constituency.”

It comes as Starmer and his government faced another daming blow when the results of a new poll were released. More than 2,100 UK adults took part in the survey between April 25 and 28 which was commissioned by the Institute of Research and Reforms (IRR) International and conducted by Savanta for GB News.

It showed that among all major political parties, those who voted for Labour in the 2024 General Election have the lowest confidence in their decision.

Almost a third of Labour voters polled (29%) say they believe they now made the wrong choice on the ballot paper last July when Sir Keir’s party won by a landslide. Meanwhile, 14% and 12% of Tory and Lib Dem voters said they regret their choice.
