GB News‘ Alex Armstrong was enraged with show guest Scarlett McGuire this morning (May 8) after she vehemently disagreed with his suggestion that taxpayer funds should reach “British people first”, instead of asylum seekers. The former Labour adviser, who previously took in a migrant from Eritrea whose father had been incarcerated, asked whether Alex was “stupid” after he argued illegal migrants should not be entitled to the money.

He pointed out that victims of grooming gangs would not receive any compensation from the British government, but that £4 million per day was being sent on housing those who arrived illegally on small boats – but McGuire insisted he was “missing the point”.   She claimed that the money used to cater for asylum seekers is derived from the International Aid budget, and that if it wasn’t being spent at home, it would “go to Africa”. However, Alex shot back: “Who pays international aid? It’s our taxes… the budget should go to British people first.”

“Why are we spending it on those things when we are telling victims of rape gangs that they can’t have any compensation?” he quizzed.

However, McGuire replied: “Are you stupid?”

She had earlier raged that Alex was talking over her, yelling: “Can you let me finish a sentence?” as the impassioned pair shouted over each other to get their points across.

The debate took place moments after GB News host Stephen Dixon declared the amounts spent on asylum seeker hotels had been a “complete disaster” for Britain.

It was claimed that the estimated cost had tripled to £4 million per day since contracts were signed in 2019, with figures set to be published today showing “just how steep the increase is on small boats”.

£4.5bn of public cash would have been paid to three companies over a period of 10 years – but the National Audit Office (NAO) now claims the true amount is likely to be closer to £15.3bn.

This brings the average annual cost for asylum accommodation to a higher amount than Labour is expected to save by cutting the winter fuel allowance for millions of pensioners.
