Fans of Good Morning Britain fumed over the ITV show being “biased” on Thursday, after host Susanna Reid interjected with a comment when Labour was brought up. It comes as she and her co-star, Ed Balls, welcomed two stars from the recent series of Celebrity Big Brother, Chesney Hawkes and Donna Preston.

While on the show, the ITV presenters asked Chesney about his recent stint on Prime Minister Questions. Ed joked and asked if the reality TV star was “running for parliament”, to which he replied: “Of course, vote for Chesney!” Ed then quizzed him further, asking which party he would be running for, with the star replying “Labour.”

That was when Susanna cut in, as she reminded viewers at home: “There are other parties available.” But Chesney still had his sights set on Labour, as he quipped: “Watch out Keir, I’m on my way!”

However, the comments sparked outrage with fans online, with them accusing the presenters of being “biased”. Some even went as far as accusing Susanna’s outfit choice of delivering a message, as she wore a red dress.

Taking to X/Twitter, one viewer wrote: “@GMB Shouldn’t be surprised that on voting day, Susanna is wearing red… [eyeroll emoji],” while another echoed: “This red dress is earning its money #gmb.”

Others targeting Ed, with one writing: “@GMB Why is red Ed who has done his 3 day stint on GMB on again today.
Is it not political bias to have him presenting on an election day?” One more added: “@GMB @susannareid100 @TiceRichard Ed Balls is appalling. Shameful bias.”

It comes as many Britons are taking to polling stations today, Thursday May 1, to have their say in the local elections. Elections will be held in 14 county councils in the UK as well as eight unitary authorities.

There will be a parliamentary by-election in Runcorn following the resignation of MP Mike Amesbury after being convicted for assaulting a constituent. Simultaneously, there will be elections for regional metro-mayors, who run large, combined authorities in places such as Hull, Greater Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITVX
