Morrisons has confirmed it will shut 17 stores in the coming days to “reinvigorate” the company, the retailer confirmed.  The full list of stores confirmed to be closing has now been revealed, with several stores set to close as soon as next week. A total of 16 locations will shut on April 16, with one store remaining open until May before it closes.

Morrisons confirmed last month it would be closing 17 of its smaller Daily-branded convenience stores, as well as several cafes, Market Kitchens, florists, meat counters, fish counters, and pharmacies.

Here’s the full list of Morrisons locations closing in April and May:

  • 51 Sidwell Street, Exeter – April 16
  • Moorland Road, Bath – April 16
  • 19 The Village, Haxby – May 14

Among the locations confirmed to be closing were 11 with Post Office counters inside. These are also likely to shut, but not necessarily on the same dates as their respective stores. In a statement to The Sun, the Post Office confirmed when its stores in these locations would shut.

It said: “Morrisons has made the difficult decision to close some Morrisons Daily stores, some of which contain Post Offices. We fully recognise the inconvenience this will cause for our customers and apologise for the short notification as these branches close between 9 April and 14 May.

“We have reviewed Post Office provision in these areas and for most of these affected branches we are advertising the vacancies.”

Post Office branches confirmed to be closing are below:

  • Pheasey Post Office, Birmingham – April 9

  • Waterloo Estate Post Office, Poole – April 10
  • Shenfield Broadway Post Office, Brentwood – April 13
  • Moorfields Post Office, Bath – April 13

  • Sidwell Street Post Office, Exeter – April 14
  • Higham Wood Post Office, Tonbridge – April 14
  • Haxby Post Office, York – April 14
  • Crossways Post Office, Croydon – April 15

According to local news reports, the Post Office inside the Shenfield Morrisons store could survive. Though scheduled to close on April 13, Essex Live has reported that it could be moved further down the road.

Store closures are just one of several measures Morrisons is taking as it shakes up its business. Alongside the Daily store closures, 18 Market Kitchens will shut, as well as 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters and four pharmacies, putting 365 employees at risk of redundancy.

Morrisons chief executive Rami Baitiéh said the closures would “reinvigorate” the company and allow money to be invested in other areas.

He continued: “In most locations, the Morrisons Café has a bright future, but a minority have specific local challenges, and in those locations, regrettably, closure and re-allocation of the space is the only sensible option.”
