ITV GMB’s Ed Balls turns on Wes Streeting as he issues scathing six-word question.uk

Good Morning Britain presenter Ed Balls didn’t hold back as he probed health secretary Wes Streeting on what he plans to do if the economy goes into recession.

Good Morning Britain presenter Ed Balls demanded an answer from Wes Streeting over what actions he will take to prevent the economy from heading into a recession.

World markets remain in turmoil following Donald Trump‘s recent global trade tariffs, however, Sir Keir Starmer has once again ruled out tax hikes for working class people.

But the question remains how the prime minister will keep the country afloat and deal with the increasing pressures on public finances. Joining Ed and Ranvir Singh on Tuesday’s (April 8) instalment of the ITV programme was Mr Streeting, who was grilled about what the government plans to do to tackle these issues.

“What are you going to do?” the presenter asked. “What’s the action which Keir Starmer can take in Britain and around the world to stop this slide into recession?”

Hitting out at the politician’s previous comments, he added: “Frankly, a small trade deal here is not going to rise to the scale of this challenge.”

Mr Streeting praised the prime minister’s actions since the recent disruption began, branding it “cool, calm and level-headed leadership” which has put the UK at the best end of the US’s tariff regime.

The Labour MP insisted there are ongoing talks to try and break down the trade barriers between the UK and the US.

He continued: “We’ve been working intensively for months now to improve our trading relationship with the European Union. I think there’s an opportunity for the rest of the world to go harder on open, free trade.”

Earlier in the interview, Mr Streeting firmly declared that the NHS is not for sale.
